Chronicle of war:

6 days left till the Great Patriotic War Victory Day

Considerable role in the victory over the fascists was played by the Soviet Navy fighters, Alexander Shabalin being one of the brightest among them. The future rear-admiral, twice Soviet Union Hero was born in Arkhangelsk province in a peasant family. Before participation in Great Patriotic War he became experienced in fighting during Soviet-Finnish war.

Starting from 1941 he was the commander of a motor torpedo-boat TKA-12, where he was guarding the main base of Soviet Navy. By the beginning of year 1944 Alexander Shabalin had wrecked a submarine, 4 carriers and 2 patrol ships of the enemy. The titles of Soviet Union Hero were given to him in 1944 for high military skills during double break-through with a group of motor torpedo-boats and successful landing operation respectively. After the war he was appointed deputy chief of Northern Navy headquarters.

Alexander Osipovitch died on 16th January 1982. A bronze bust of the hero was established in the town Onega in Arkhangelsk region. Several streets in Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Sevastopol and a square in Onega were named after Shabalin.
