October 01st, 1944 On October 1 in Yugoslavia to the south of the Romanian town of TURNU SEVERIN, our forces advanced forward to secure the following settlements: KUPUZISTE, MIHAILOVAC, DUSANOVAC, PRAHOVO, MILOSEVO, VIDROVAC, MOKRANJA, RECKA, GRADSKOVO, and VRAZOGRNAC. October 02nd, 1944 On October 2 no major developments were Reported. In local fighting on October 1, nine German tanks were destroyed. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed seven enemy aircraft. October 03rd, 1944 Units of the Leningrad Front performed a superb landing operation to secure the island of HIUMA (DAGO) in the Baltic Sea. October 04th, 1944 On October 4 in Yugoslavia and to the west of the town of VRASAC, our forces took the towns and railroad stations of ALIBUNAR and VLADIMIROVAC, and the settlements and railroad stations of DEBELJACA, CREPAJA, BANACKO KRALEVICEVO, and BANACKO-NOVO SELO. October 05th, 1944 On October 5 in Yugoslavia, to the north and south of the town of PETROVGRAD, our forces, together with units of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia. October 06th, 1944 As a result of a superb landing operation, units of the Leningrad Front landed on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL) to break enemy resistance and secure a bridgehead in the eastern part of the island. The bridgehead, 40 kilometers along the frontline and 25 kilometers deep, included over 80 settlements, including the major settlements of ORISSAARE, PAJDE, VALTA, RANNAKJULA, KUNIN-GUSTE, TAGAVERE, RIDALA, MUSTLA, SAARE, PAMMANA, METSKJULA, KARJA, PJARSAMA, RAAGI, RATLA, KONNU, KOKSI, and KAHTLA. October 07th, 1944 On October 7 on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL), our forces, continuing their offensive, took KURESSAARE, the major town and sea port of the island, and secured over 50 other settlements, including KAJDUVALJA, LULUPA, KAUBI, PIJLA, TORGA, LYJNE, KIRIKU, KALLI, SAKLA, LIIVA-PUTLA, UDUVERE, KOLJALA, RAIMASTE, PUHA, and VAIVERE. October 08th, 1944 On October 8 on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL), our forces, continuing their offensive, secured 40 settlements, including the major settlements of VOHMA, TORISE, HAKJALA, MUSTJALA, SAUVERE, ABULA, MJATTA-SELJA, ANIJALA, and IRASE. October 09th, 1944 On October 9, on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL) our forces secured over 50 settlements, including UNDA, METSA, KORUSE, KUREVERE, KIHELKONNA, VEDRUKA, KARALA, LUMANDA, TOMALOUKA, MATSALOUKA, TEHU-MARDI, UJDIBE. October 10th, 1944 On October 10 on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL), our forces continued to mop up the enemy force on the southern end of the island. October 11st, 1944 On October 11 on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL), our forces secured the settlements of UNGRU and IMARA on the southern end of the island. At the same time, our forces took the islands of VILSANDI LAID and ABRUKA SAAR. October 12nd, 1944 On October 12, on the way to RIGA our forces continued an offensive to secure the following settlements: LANGECIEMS, KALNGALASCIEMS, JAUNCIEMS, EJLENBURGA, JUGLASMUJZA (9 kilometers to the east of RIGA), SAVELI, SVALKANI, PRIEDE, TESTERCIEMS, VILCINI, NARNEVICI and the railroad stations of LANGECIEMS, BALTEZERS, SAURESI, and SALASPILS. October 13rd, 1944 Units of the 3rd Baltic Front, together with the 2nd Baltic Front, continued their successful offensive to secure the city of RIGA, the capital of Soviet Latvia, on October 13. Riga is a major naval base and used to be a powerfully fortified German area in the Baltic. October 14th, 1944 On October 14 to the south of RIGA, our forces continued an offensive to secure the following settlements: RAMASMEZS, MEDEMI, BALOZI, PLAKANI, BLIJAS, KRAMAS, JAUNZEMI, CIRULI, BERZU, and the railroad station of BALOZI. October 15th, 1944 On October 15, units of the Karelian Front broke through heavy German defenses to the northwest of MURMANSK and, supported by the warships and landing teams of the Soviet Northern Fleet, took town of PETSAMO (PECHENGA), an important naval base and important enemy stronghold in the Far North. October 16th, 1944 On October 16, to the west and southwest of RIGA, our forces continued an offensive to take the following settlements: VARKALKROGS, VIKULI, PINTI, PLUDI, ANNASMUIZA, LAPSAS, ADIENI, MAZCENA, SUDMALKALNS, DALBE, GAISARAGI, TISI, VOLGUNTE and the railroad stations of LIELUPE, AVOTI, and DALBE. October 17th, 1944 On October 17 to the west and southwest of RIGA, our forces continued an offensive to secure the following settlements: RIGAS JURMALA, SLOKA, VALTERI, GATCIEMS, USINAS, SILENIEKI, ZVIGULI, LIELCIEMS, MURMAJA, and the railroad stations of MELLUZI, ASARI, SLOKA, clearing the enemy out of the eastern bank of the river LIELUPE between SLOKA and JELGAVA (MITAVA). October 18th, 1944 On October 18, to the northwest of the town of JELGAVA (MITAVA), our forces continued an offensive, crossed the river LIELUPE and secured the following settlements: PIKSTNIEKI, TEMERI, BRANTJUCIEMS KAIGUCIEMS, VAL-GUNTESCIEMS, GAILISI, MEZAMUIZA, VEGAINI, and the railroad stations of TEMERI, LIVBERZE, and BUDAS. October 19th, 1944 On October 19 to the northwest of JELGAVA (MITAVA), our forces launched an offensive to secure the following settlements: BIGAUNCIEMS, LAPMEZCIEMS, RAGACIEMS, IZKOPI, ERCES, SILINI, and SPRAGOULI. October 20th, 1944 On October 20 in North Transylvania, our forces continued an offensive, securing the following settlements: FERNEZI DE SUS, ROSI-OR, EGERISTE, KILIJA, SOKONZEL, CHORNI, HODOD, BABUKA, CEHAL, DIZIR, and ITEU. October 21st, 1944 On October 21 in North Transylvania, our forces together with the Romanian forces secured the settlements of SEPINTA, JAPA, BERBESTI, DZULESTI, DESESTI, BLIDAR, ILBA, MIRIUS, HOMORODUL-DE-JOS, DZERAUSA, BELTIUG, KEC, and the railroad station of CIKERLEU. October 22nd, 1944 Units of the Karelian Front, continuing their offensive launched at PETSAMO (PECHENGA), reached the state border between the USSR and Norway on the frontline from the shore of the Barents Sea to Lake KUETSJARVI, securing nickel mines and the following settlements: NIKEL, VUOREMI, AFANASIEV, ROVA, VIRTAIN, and AHMALAHTI. October 23rd, 1944 Units of the Karelian Front, continuing their offensive to the west and the southwest of PETSAMO in adverse Arctic weather, liberated the entire nickel-producing region from its German occupiers and secured the settlement of SALMIJARVI. Our forces also cut off enemy road traffic between ROVANIEMI and KIRKENES. October 24th, 1944 On October 24 in East Prussia, our forces, defying enemy resistance and its armor-supported counterattacks, advanced stubbornly to take many fortified settlements, including JODZEN, DAGUTSEN, VERSKEPHEN, KIBARTEN, SILLENINGIEN, PETERLAUKEN, SKRUDZEN, SILLUPENEN, TRAKENEN, JENCUNEN, ZURGUPHEN, TEVELN, GURNEN, REGELLEN, and BITTKOVEN. October 25th, 1944 Defying the adverse Arctic weather, units of the Karelian Front pursued the enemy doggedly into Norway to secure on October 25 the town of KIRKENES, a major seaport in the Barents Sea, and over 30 other Norwegian settlements, including KROFT FETERBUHT, STURBUKT, JARDFJORBOTN, ROPELVEN, JAKOBSNES, ELVENES, BJORKHEIM, HEBUGTEN, SANDNES, BJORNEVAND, LONGFJORDBOTN, NIGORD, FOSSGORD, LANGLI, and SVANVIK. October 26th, 1944 On October 26, units of the Karelian Front continued their offensive to take the following settlements in the PETSAMO (PECHENGA) region: VANHATALVIKIULIA, KESKITALO, HEJSKARI, MENIKKO, PITKAJARVI, and HEIHENJARVI. October 27th, 1944 On October 27 in East Prussia, to the northwest of the city of STALLUPENEN, our forces fought relentlessly to take well-defended settlements of KISEN, PATILZEN, and ENSKEMEN. October 28th, 1944 Units of the Karelian Front, continuing their offensive, took in the PETSAMO (PECHENGA) region the following settlements: MAJATALO, NAUTSI, and the following Norwegian settlements: BUHOLM, STONGA, VEINES, LILLEBEKKEN, MUNKELVEN, ANJELFJEL, and NEJDEN. October 29th, 1944 In Czechoslovakia to the south of the city of UZHOROD, our forces forced the enemy out of the town and important railroad junction of COP. October 30th, 1944 On October 30 in Czechoslovakia to the north of the city of UZHOROD, our forces continued an offensive to secure the following settlements: CABALOVCE, OLJSINKIV, VILAG, PARIGUZOVCE, GRIVISTE, HONJKOVCE, and TIBAVA. |
