May 02nd, 1945 The troops of the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front, commanded by marshal of the Soviet Union GEORGY ZHUKOV and supported by the troops of the 1st UKRAINIAN Front, completed, after stubborn block-to-block fighting, the rout of the Berlin group of Nazi troops and today, on May 2 seized the whole of the German capital city of BERLIN - the center of German imperialism and the seat Nazi aggression. May 03rd, 1945 In the course of May 3, south-west of the town and port of PILLAU, the troops of the 3rd BELARUSSIAN Front fought battles to clear the Frische Nehrung Spit of the enemy and seized the settlements of KALBERG LIEP, KAISERHOF. The troops of the 2nd BELARUSSIAN Front, developing the offensive, seized the towns of BART, BAD, DOBERAN, NEUBUKOW, WARIN, WITTENBERGE and on May 3, on the WISMAR-WITTENBERGE line linked up with the allied British forces. The troops of the front also seized the large settlements of KREPELIN, NEU KLOSTE, BUTZOW, POSTROW, GOLDBERG, KAROW, MEINBURG, PUTLITZ, PRITZWALK and PERLEBERG. May 04th, 1945 The troops of the 2nd BELARUSSIAN Front, forcing the DIWENOW Strait north of STETTIN, seized the town of WOLLIN and the settlements of LUSKOW, KORTENTIN, JARMBOW, KODRAM, REBERG, GROSS and KLEIN MOKRATZ, SOLDEMIN. North of the town of WITTENBERGE, the troops of the front, pursuing the offensive, seized the towns of STERNBERG, LUBZ, PARCHIM, GRABOW and the large settlements of DABEL, DEMEN, GOLDENBOW, RADUN, SPORNITZ, BLIEVENSTORF, ZIRZOW, LENZEN. May 05th, 1945 In the course of May 5, the troops of the 3rd BELARUSSIAN Front fought battles to clear the FRISCHE NEHRUNG Spit of the enemy and seized the settlements of LANGHACKEN, SCHELLNMUHL, SMIRGEL, PRIBBERNAU, SCHOTTLAND. May 06th, 1945 The troops of the 2nd BELARUSSIAN Front, pursuing the offensive, forced the STRALSUNDER FAHRWASSER Strait, seized on the RUGEN island the towns of BERGEN, GARZ, PUTBUS, SASSNITZ, and on May 6 seized the whole of the RUGEN island. Fighting on May 5, the troops of the front took 4,660 Nazi men and officers prisoner and captured 24 aircraft and 215 guns. Among those taken prisoner was Rear Admiral Horstmann, chief of the mobilization department of the Stettin Military District. May 07th, 1945 The troops of the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front reached the River ELBE north and southeast of MAGDEBURG, seizing the towns of GEKTIN, ZERBST and the large settlements of SCHONHAUSEN, BERGZOW, PAREY, SCHARTAU, GERWISCH, LEITZKAU, GEHRDEN, WALTERNIENBURG, STEUTZ. Fighting on May 6, the troops of the front took 3,100 Nazi men and officers prisoner and captured 34 enemy aircraft at aerodromes. May 08th, 1945 In the course of May 8, the troops of the 3rd BELARUSSIAN Front, continuing to fight battles to clear the FRISCHE NEHRUNG Spit of the enemy, seized the settlements of NEU WELT and VOGELSANG. May 09th, 1945 At 11 p m on May 8, between TUKUMUS and LIBAVA, the German Army Group Kurland, consisting of the 16th and 18th Field Armies and commanded by General of Infantry Gilpert, stopped resistance and started turning personnel and combat equipment over to the troops of the LENINGRAD Front. The troops of the front seized the towns of LIBAVA (LIEPAJA), PAVILOSTA, AIZPUTE, SKRUNDA, SALDUS, SABILE, KANDAVA, TUKUMUS. By the evening of May 9, over 45,000 Nazi men and officers had surrendered to the troops of the Front. The reception of POWs is going on. By 8 am on May 10, 68,578 Nazi men and non-commissioned officers, 1,982 officers and 13 generals had surrendered. May 11st, 1945 In the course of May 11 the troops of the LENINGRAD Front continued receiving the formations and units of the German Army Group Kurland that had capitulated. On May 9 and 10, 133,000 Nazi men and officers, including 14 generals, surrendered. May 12nd, 1945 In the course of May 12, the troops of the LENINGRAD Front continued receiving the formations and units of the German Army Group Kurland that had capitulated. On May 9-12, 140,408 Nazi men and non-commissioned officers, 5,083 officers and 28 generals, surrendered. May 13rd, 1945 In the course of May 13, the troops of the LENINGRAD Front continued receiving the formations and units of the German Army Group Kurland that had capitulated. On May 9-13, 181,032 Nazi men and non-commissioned officers, 8,038 officers and 42 generals, surrendered. May 14th, 1945 On May 14, the number of POWs reported in the situation report of the Soviet Informburo for May 13 grew by 170,000 Nazi men and officers and ten generals on all fronts. May 15th, 1945 The reception of Nazi men and officers taken prisoner was completed on all fronts. |
