1944, March

A few days ago, troops of the Leningrad front crossed the Narva River further south of Narva-city. Having broken through the heavily fortified defenses they captured a bridgehead of 35 kilometers long and 15 kilometers deep on the West Bank. Our troops captured such settlements as Viaska, Mustaiye, Suresoru, Kiarekonna, Sebergi, Auvere, Khavakingu, Metskyula, Uhekonna and cut Narva - Tallinn railroad near Auvere station in 15 kilometers further west of Narva.

During the course of April 1, further southwest of Ternopol our troops advanced. They captured Podgaitsy district center of Ternopol region, and took more than 30 other settlements including such major population centers as Zavaluv, Goleshuv, Tovstobaby, Konchaki, Krymiduv, Tumizh, Mendzyguzhe and such railway stations as Komarovka, Nizhnyuv, and Oleshuv.

On January 1 in Czechoslovakia, advancing to the town of Lucenec, our forces secured the settlements of Wielkie Dravce, Bolkowce, Nitra, Galsa, Terbelovce, Mikusovce (three kilometers to the south of Lucenec), Rapowce, Panitske-Dravce, Terinc, Busince, Malye Zlewce, Malye and Wielkie Straciny, Plachtince, and the railway junction of Rapowce. On December 31, our troops captured 515 German personnel in this area.

Following a protracted siege and bitter fighting, the 1st Ukrainian Front forces defeated the encircled enemy garrison in the city and fortress of Glogau, seizing this formidable Wehrmacht strongpoint on the left bank of the Oder. More than 8,000 enemy personnel were taken prisoner and a lot of materiel was captured.
